The Yahoo Homepage and News curation team is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Editor to join our editorial team. This role will help shape content experiences consumed by tens of millions of Yahoo users daily. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned editor and passionate news consumer with a demonstrated drive and ability to identify and cover breaking news and top stories across a broad variety of categories including news, politics, sports, entertainment, money, culture. The right candidate will have experience curating and programming news content for a US audience and a track record of success in a similar position at a top media outlet. The person in this role must thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and be able to nimbly maneuver through a variety of tools and platforms. It’s a plus to have experience in launching new editorial formats. We have a lot of exciting projects in the works, and will require our staffers to embrace change, and adapt with agility to the new ways we’ll seek to serve our users and deepen audience engagement. Responsibilities:
- Program the news of the day on Yahoo.com, including curation of content, headline writing, video programming, app distribution and more as needed
- Support breaking news coverage and assignments across a variety of platforms including desktop, mobile, mail, etc.
- Support special projects associated with development and growth, including “cards” programming, collaborating with editorial, product and other teams
- Some support programming news on AOL.com and the AOL app
- Help execute coverage plans for tentpole events across a variety of content categories, including News, Entertainment, Sports and more
- Closely track metrics and analytics of content to stay abreast of evolving interests across our ecosystem
- Manage relationships with important publishers and content partners
Desirable Qualifications:
- At least 5+ years of editorial experience writing or content programming on high-traffic websites
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, late nights, overnight shifts and holidays and weekends as needed. This role includes one regular weekend shift and will be either a Sun-Thurs or Tues-Sat week. The schedule will likely best fit either a night owl or someone based on the West Coast.
- Familiarity and experience with complex web content management systems, information architecture and metadata
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high degree of professionalism over email and in person
- Proven ability to juggle multiple priorities with excellent accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- Proficiency in Google Enterprise, AP style, copy-editing

The compensation for this position ranges from $72,750.00 – $151,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives. Yahoo has a high degree of flexibility around employee location and hybrid working. In fact, our flexible-hybrid approach to work is one of the things our employees rave about.
