What You’ll Do

  • Lead technical direction, quality, and implementation of software projects across technical domains such as storage, networking, and virtualization
  • Drive complex software projects forward, ensuring the team is making progress and shipping efficiently
  • Oversee research of new technical directions (e.g. storage, networking, virtualization technologies)
  • Mentor engineers across the organization
  • Balance near-term (this week) and long-term (2+ years) engineering goals
  • Identify skill gaps on the team, define new roles, design interview loops
  • Work with product management and key stakeholders to ensure engineering work is aligned with priorities

You

  • Have 8+ years of deep technical leadership experience
  • Are highly adaptable and understand (or can quickly come up to speed) on best practices related to many of the following:
    • System architecture
    • Virtualization
    • Networking (physical, SDN)
    • Distributed storage
    • Public clouds
    • Security
    • Automation
    • Testing
    • Software engineering (e.g. API design)
  • Have led the architecture of complex, large-scale systems built by 25+ software contributors and running on 5000+ servers
  • Have a proven track record of operational excellence and designing right-sized processes related to code quality, automation, and software development lifecycle
  • Have grown and mentored a software engineering team of 25+ people
  • Care deeply about prioritization and balancing business needs with engineering needs
  • Value working on a team that emphasizes strong communication, collaboration, and autonomy
  • Have a strong engineering background – EECS preferred, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics
