The Opportunity at Komodo Health

The Sentinel Engineering Manager provides strategic technical and people leadership for building critical Komodo Health applications that transform the way customers interact with our healthcare data. You’ll be involved in various product development cycle stages while leading technical teams and driving the overall architecture that provides actionable insights to improve health outcomes. You will closely collaborate with Product Management developing a strategic product roadmap, lead tactical planning, and own key technical decisions for solving challenging technical problems. The leadership and coaching you provide will grow our engineers, empower them to do their best work, and improve our development processes. You will foster a culture of collaboration, trust, and technical expertise while launching high quality products aligned with our mission.

Looking back on your first 12 months at Komodo Health, you will have…

  • Led delivery on several impactful customer facing initiatives such as developing new complex, user experience driven products from concept to launch.
  • Partnered across the Engineering organization along with Product Management and Program Management to empower teams to consistently deliver at a high level of impact by establishing team objectives for product roadmap driven projects.
  • Influenced new product and feature technical architecture design (backend and frontend) while defining a long term technical strategy aligned with industry best practices.
  • Actively coached and inspired your team with timely and actionable feedback synthesized from peer feedback.
  • Collaborated with Product Managers, Full Stack Engineers, and Data Engineers to implement data services using API, validation and/or data quality enhancements.
  • Collaborated with Infrastructure Engineers to implement infrastructure as a service using AWS, Snowflake, other cloud providers.
  • Cultivated a working environment to support your team’s professional and technical expertise.
  • Effectively report product delivery status and resource utilization.
  • Contributed to hiring and growing the team by recruiting engineers and improving our hiring processes

What you bring to Komodo Health:

  • Engineering management experience with customer facing applications in high-growth engineering organizations directly managing and growing 10+ engineers.
  • In-depth experience with some combination of front end frameworks, cloud infrastructure, data pipeline development, or complex web platform development. AWS managed services preferred.
  • You have a working knowledge of a modern programming language (Python preferred), data pipeline engineering, relational database design, web platform development, API design, or distributed systems. You’re not required to be an expert in all of these areas, but it helps to be an expert in some.
  • Strong experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to build the vision and deliver the product roadmap and operationalization.
  • A deep understanding of how cross-functional teams work at a software product company and experience managing such teams.
  • Understand and design for non-functional concerns such as performance, cost optimization, and maintainability
  • Experience leading recruiting initiatives, as well as growing and organizing engineering teams.
  • Ability to work as part of an agile collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong experience with continuous delivery product development lifecycle.
  • Strong experience with capacity planning and effective resource utilization.

Where You’ll Work

Komodo Health has a hybrid work model; we recognize the power of choice and importance of flexibility for the well-being of both our company and our individual Dragons. Roles may be completely remote based anywhere in the country listed, remote but based in a specific region, or local (commuting distance) to one of our hubs in San Francisco, New York City, or Chicago with remote work options.
