The grocery industry is in a state of flux. Consumers are embracing technologies, devices, and services that make everyday tasks like shopping, cooking, and list-making quicker, easier, more fun, and more efficient. Mercatus empowers grocers to adopt this change driven by consumer demand, allowing them to grow with the evolving needs of today’s shoppers.  We create and build web and mobile applications exclusively for grocery retailers, helping them to extend their brand’s online presence, offer personalized experiences to their customers, and sell their products on the web. This is all done through one cohesive, enterprise-grade SaaS platform.

The Opportunity

In this role you will be a technical leader for the organization, directing teams in a complex technology environment. You’ll also evangelize Engineering principles through effective communication, collaboration with cross functional teams, integration, and automation. The teams you oversee will be building out products and features for our retailers and their customers. To succeed in this role you must be outgoing and have a real passion for levelling-up people, engineering, and technology at an organization.

What You’ll Do

    • Own and be accountable for all engineering aspects of product delivery
    • Help your team solve complex business problems throughout the development lifecycle
    • Collaborate closely with product leaders to influence product strategy, roadmap, and process
    • Set clear and measurable objectives for your team
    • Build a high performing team through the ongoing development of current team members and leaders
    • Develop and lead inclusive, welcoming, and effective recruiting processes
    • Maintain relationships with senior leaders and colleagues throughout the company, and represent engineering in cross-functional projects and to the company at large
    • Proactively identify areas of improvement where engineering teams can make a difference and work with other teams to make those improvements happen

What You Bring

    • Strong technical skills and the ability to help teams build the right solutions
    • Experience managing and scaling engineering teams
    • Skills and strategies capable of motivating and inspiring confidence
    • Strong understanding of, and experience practicing, agile software development
    • Passion for nurturing the careers of the people on your team and developing the next generation of leaders
    • Ability to identify problems before they occur and help teams solve them quickly and decisively
    • Results oriented mindset with ability to focus team on work that maximizes impact
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Haves

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or related discipline) or equivalent experience
    • Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure
    • Experience with technologies like React, React Native
    • Experience with LAMP stack
    • Experience with managing mix of local and remote teams
